Open VxNewton's installer and follow the guided one-time setup. VxNewton checks this Mac, downloads and prepares its AI model, and opens chat when setup is complete.
Before you begin
Make sure your Mac is ready
VxNewton checks these requirements before it downloads its AI model.
Update macOS before installing if needed.
The current version will not set up on a Mac with less than 8 GB of RAM.
Free space on your Mac's storage drive, not memory (RAM). Needed temporarily during setup.
First-time setup
From download to your first message

Download and open the installer
Get the latest version from the VxNewton download page, then open the downloaded disk image.

Install VxNewton
Open VxNewton and choose Install VxNewton. The installer checks this Mac, shows the download and storage requirements, and installs the app in Applications. Follow any instructions it shows for an existing copy.

Finish Setting Up VxNewton
Open VxNewton from Applications and choose Open if macOS asks for confirmation. VxNewton is now installed. The Finish Setting Up VxNewton screen explains the one-time AI model download and storage requirement. Choose Download VxNewton’s AI Model when you are ready.

Download and prepare the AI model
VxNewton checks this Mac, downloads its AI model (approximately 2.6–5.5 GB, depending on your Mac), checks the download, and prepares the model. Chat opens automatically when setup is complete. If you choose Cancel, setup pauses and VxNewton continues from the saved download next time when possible.

Type a message and send it. The first answer after opening the app can take a little longer while the assistant loads into memory.

VxNewton is ready
If setup is interrupted: reopen VxNewton in the downloaded disk image if the app has not been installed yet. Once it is installed, open VxNewton from Applications and choose Download VxNewton’s AI Model again. VxNewton keeps the saved part of the download and continues from it when possible.

If something gets in the way
VxNewton says “Move VxNewton to Applications”
Choose Move to Applications and Open. If macOS prevents the automatic move, choose Show VxNewton in Finder and Open Applications, drag VxNewton into Applications, and open that copy. If VxNewton says another app with the same name is already in Applications, choose Show in Finder and move or rename the selected app before trying again. VxNewton does not replace an existing app.
The download stopped or my connection dropped
If the error screen is still open, check your internet connection and choose Try Again in the installer or Retry in VxNewton. If the app is not installed yet, reopen Install VxNewton. If you closed VxNewton, open it from Applications and choose Download VxNewton’s AI Model. Setup keeps the saved portion of the download and resumes from it when possible.
Why does setup need more space than VxNewton uses afterward?
VxNewton needs temporary room to download and safely prepare its AI model. Those temporary setup files are removed after setup finishes, leaving about 2.8–6.2 GB in use for the app and AI model.
The AI model finished downloading, but VxNewton couldn’t finish preparing it
Choose Retry to try again. If the problem continues, open Details and include the information shown when you contact support.
VxNewton says this Mac does not have enough memory or space
The current version requires a Mac with at least 8 GB of memory. For a storage warning, free enough space to leave roughly 9–14 GB available during setup, then choose Try Again in the installer or Retry in VxNewton.
VxNewton says another copy is preparing the AI model
Quit the other copy of VxNewton, then choose Retry. Use one VxNewton window and one Applications copy at a time.

Questions after setup
Does VxNewton need an internet connection every time?
No. After the one-time setup, ordinary chat works without an internet connection. Web search and update checks need a connection, so live information will not be available while your Mac is offline.
How do I use web search for current information?
Ask your question normally. When current information is needed, VxNewton can search the web and show the sources it used with the answer. Web search requires an internet connection.
Why can the first answer after opening take longer?
The assistant loads into your Mac's memory when it is first needed. Later messages in the same session usually begin sooner. Speed also varies by Apple Silicon chip and by what else the Mac is doing.
Where are my conversations?
Saved conversations stay on your Mac and appear in the VxNewton sidebar. Use the trash button beside a conversation whenever you want to delete it.
How do I update VxNewton?
VxNewton checks for app updates periodically. You can also choose VxNewton > Check for Updates... from the menu bar. Regular app updates reuse your downloaded AI model and saved conversations. If a future update needs a different AI model, VxNewton will guide you through the download.
