The short version: ordinary VxNewton chat runs on your Mac. VxNewton does not require an account and does not send conversations to a cloud AI service. First-time setup, update checks, and optional web search use the internet as described below.

Information stored on your Mac

VxNewton stores conversations, settings, operational logs, and web-search traces in its Application Support folder on your Mac. The local model files downloaded during setup are stored there as well. You can delete individual conversations from the app. Removing the app itself may not remove its Application Support data.

No VxNewton account or cloud chat history

VxNewton does not require registration or sign-in. It does not upload ordinary chat messages or generated answers to VxNewton servers, and it does not use a remote AI model to generate ordinary responses. VxNewton does not include advertising or product-usage analytics.

Model downloads and app updates

First-time setup downloads the local model files from models.vxnewton.com. VxNewton also checks updates.vxnewton.com for signed app updates, and app downloads may come from downloads.vxnewton.com. These requests disclose ordinary network information such as your IP address, request time, and request headers to VxNewton's hosting provider, Amazon Web Services. VxNewton's CDN access logs are retained for up to 90 days for security, reliability, and troubleshooting.

Web search

When VxNewton uses web search, a search query derived from your question is sent to DuckDuckGo. VxNewton may then request pages from the sites shown as sources. DuckDuckGo and those source websites receive ordinary network information such as your IP address and request headers, and their own privacy policies apply. Avoid including sensitive personal information in a question that may require web search.

The VxNewton website

The VxNewton website is a static site delivered through Amazon Web Services. It does not use product analytics, advertising trackers, or account cookies. The hosting service records ordinary request metadata in CDN access logs retained for up to 90 days for security, reliability, and troubleshooting.

Changes to this notice

If VxNewton's data handling changes, this page will be updated before the new behavior is released. The effective date above identifies the current version.
